"Greater Service, Greater Progress"
"Greater Service,
Greater Progress"
Since 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has made a substantial impact nationally and abroad. The Sorority has a proud history of offering service wherever chapters exists under the auspice of the organization’s signature program entitled, Project Reassurance. Nu Xi Sigma's community engagement activities and projects are centered around five essential programs: Operation Big Book Bag, Project Cradle Care, Swim 1922, Women's Wellness and Youth Symposium and other local community initiatives.
OPERATION
BIG BOOK BAG
Operation Big Book Bag is a program designed to address the needs, challenges and issues that face school-aged children who are educationally at-risk through donations of educational materials, equipment and school supplies. Student exposure to STEM curriculum and careers, and a refocus on tutoring support and mentoring programs rounds out this dynamic service initiative.
PROJECT CRADLE CARE
Project CRADLE Care is one of our essential programs designed to raise awareness of disparate and inequitable maternal and infant health outcomes Black women endure through community outreach, advocacy, education, and implicit bias training. In so doing, we aim to mitigate outcome and life-course disparities in our communities.
SWIM 1922
Swim 1922 in partnership with USA Swimming was created to address the disparity of African American and Hispanic children in the U.S. who do not know how to swim by having Olympians and members of the sorority teach the community about water safety and how to swim. This project is powerful in that members create awareness and increase access by reducing barriers for minority children which is projected to change multiple generations to come.

YOUTH
SYMPOSIUM
Youth Symposium is held simultaneously, on the second Saturday of March by Alumnae Chapters across the nation. The Symposium is designed to highlight some of the prevalent concerns that negatively impact our youth (drugs, teen violence, abuse, low self-esteem, suicide, teen pregnancy, human trafficking, etc.). Focus on positive opportunities for positive outcomes provides students with tools and strategies to be successful and productive citizens.
